BMW Introduces iDrive 9.0

BMW Introduces iDrive 9.0 , BMW iDrive 9.0, the latest Android-based infotainment system, was just introduced at the 2023 Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas. Coming sooner than expected, it looks like the BMW X1 compact crossover will be transitioning to the latest operating system in the next few months.

Reporting from Motor1, the manufacturer introduced iDrive 8.0 some time ago and is embedded in the BMW iX electric SUV. However, the latest iDrive 9.0 infotainment system will be embedded for the first time on the next generation BMW X2 .

Please note, iDrive 9.0 will not be used on all future models. This is because several types of infotainment systems will be updated to iDrive 8.5.

The reason for this is because cars like the new BMW 7 Series use a Linux-based operating system, so the coding is obviously very different. Even so, the user experience will be very similar and the functionality will not be much different.

The type of car that uses 8.5 will not have an Android Appstore like iDrive 9.0.

Meanwhile, the manufacturer admits that the first model to use iDrive 8.5 will be the next-generation BMW 5 Series which will debut this summer, along with the BMW i5 Pure Electric. In addition, the BMW 7 Series will also be updated to iDrive 8.5 at the end of 2023, although this model actually went on sale a few months ago.

This Munich-based car manufacturer initially announced in mid-2022, plans to adopt an Android-based operating system on certain models will begin to be applied in March 2023. Apart from the BMW X1, another model confirmed to get iDrive 9.0 is the BMW 2 Series Active Tourer.

In addition, future MINI models will also make a transition, but with a different visual interface from BMW. However, the details themselves are still unknown at this time.

The iDrive 9.0 will be enriched by content with support for 3D navigation, as well as a flexible touch layout.
